Our friends Spiral Theas (Robin Heyden) and Chimera Cosmos (Liz Dorland) presented at the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference on a Continuing Medical Education event that was designed, along with John Wiecha and Elliot Sternthal, for family practice physicians and an article the team published in the Journal for Medical Internet Research. Over the years we've grown from one sim to nearly 100; developing a multitude of projects, hosting many events, and creating public spaces along the way. There is a new Second Life Case Study created together by the NMC and Linden Lab. Announced today at the EduScape Blog as "Behind the Scenes of The NMC: The Largest Education Project in Second Life", the study aims to capture the breadth of the NMC's 3 years of experiences in Second Life. Peeking at Orientation

I was flying around the other day checking out the many new changes for NMC Campus (more on that shortly, but I am thinking this is NMC Campus 3.0!) when I saw a cluster of green dots on NMC Orientation. The original NMC Campus opened on April 20, 2006 (so many prims ago!) as our first step in exploring the potential of this 3D virtual worlds as a collaboration space. Fast forward from one sim with some buildings and events to more than 80+ sims in the NMC Campus region, and much has changed. After collecting a long list of suggestions from our communities for what to include in an Orientation Island experience, we are ready to have some early birds test out NMC Orientation, our new entry in Second Life designed specifically for students and educators. Our announcement of NMC Virtual Worlds has made the cover page for the January 16, 2007 issue of the Metaverse Messenger: New Media Consortium, a non-profit educational consortium which commissioned a huge campus presence in Second Life last year, has announced a NMC Virtual Worlds development service in Second Life this year.
